Thanks all for your input.

In the end my solution is a combination of Jon Spriggs's and Dave's
suggestion.

I've just written a script which dumps the mysql db to a file and then
another that restores.  The DB file is copied to the servers via svn.

PS Deploying projects between windows and linux is a nightmare if you're
not diligent with your DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR and PATH_SEPARATOR constants!
