[Phpwm] trainings

Have you come up with a specific piece of Œtraining¹ and asked for it? Every
company I¹ve worked for has been happy to send me on courses (even coughing
up over £1000/year for OU studies) however I¹ve has to chase down the
courses and sell my bosses the benefits of them.

The main problem with training is deciding what you need that can give back
to the company rather than just qualify your for your next job.

I got brainwashed by ŒInvestors in People¹ a few years ago (another course I
went on :0) ), which (though in most companies is just a badge to hang on
the wall) makes a lot of sense when it comes to training. Basically you
write a 5 year plan of where you want your company to be and what you want
it to be doing, look at the skills you have to deliver that and the skills
you need and build a training plan AND BUDGET around that.

And training can be books, conferences and free R&D time as much as going on
collage courses, infact conferences are the best training I¹ve had.

Cheers

Mike
