I had problems with red hat 8.0 with the NTFS partition - I think you
have to compile it in to the kernel - So i just installed mandrake 9 and
the NTFS partion works fine no kernel recompile - Easy!

I have a new XP platform with 80G disk. It has been preconfigured
with a single volume - properties of (C:) identify NTFS file system
    with 70G free space.

I want to end up dual booting with a Linux partitions consuming 40G,
the remainder under XP, with the ability to see files between the
    two O/S's.

    I intend using Red Hat.

Do I need to reinstall XP, or can I split the NTFS file system? Do I
need any further disk management software?
