Hi

It looks like it's a mixed bag with this one. As there are a few
problems that may or may not affect you.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108264

Regrettably, your going to need a connection to the internet for that
machine.

Your going to have to get the wireless-tools package but before that you
need the packages for building kernel modules. They are given on the
link provided above. They include kernel-headers etc. You also need
the sysutils for the fromdos utility to convert a .dat file to unix
format. If the steps I've found are the same as those you've been
provided. But really you are going to have to help yourself.

You specifically asked about creating the directory. This is achieved
by the mkdir command As the directory required is in the major
filesystem, you have to have root privileges to create it. Thus your
mkdir command requires being prefixed with the sudo command. Such steps
are typically achieved within a terminal window. So select terminal
from the accessories menu. Alt + F1. Alternatively, alt + F2 and in
the run dialog box type, 'gnome-terminal'.

When in the terminal enter the mkdir command like this:

sudo mkdir -pv /etc/Wireless/RT73STA

It will prompt you for your password.

When your finished you can type exit to get out of the terminal.
