What app are you using - GTKPod? Or one of those media players that can
integrate with one's iPod?
It was a rather painless process that, if I recall correctly, just
involved me creating a mount point for the iPod, adding a record
to /etc/fstab, then mounting it and running GTKPod. There was a how-to
on the Ubuntu wiki (or possibly the forums, I forget), which is how I
manager to get it all up and running.
I can't seem to find the page on the wiki right now, though...

I'm still using Edgy, but I'm pretty sure I set up the iPod Nano under
Dapper.
I've also only had experience with iPod Nanos, not the "proper" iPods -
they may differ (or they may not... I don't know).
