Hello to the Redditch & Bromsgrove LUG!
I have been meaning to join a LUG for far too long now, so no better
time than the present!
Just a little about me, I work within electrical engineering
[switchgear] where we use mainly MS software... but outside of work,
Linux is my system of choice!
I have been using Linux since 1999 where I started to experimenting with
Red Hat and SUSE. My experience was very limited back then but by 2002 I
had moved onto Mandrake which really caught my imagination, to the point
where I was logged into Linux far more often then any MS operating
system at that time.
From 2004 onwards I have been using Linux exclusively having COMPLETELY
cut all ties to any Microsoft OS's (for me, 2004 was the year of the
Linux desktop!).
Since then I have used all the main distributions at some stage
(Fedora/Red Hat, open SUSE, Sabayon, Ubuntu/Debian, Mandriva) with
mainly KDE and Gnome.
Today we currently have Linux Mint as our main system, chosen purely on
the basis that my wife and children use this daily and I want them to
get the most out of their experience with Linux, with it being one of
the most user friendly distributions I have come across. I also have
installations of Ubuntu ultimate edition and Sabayon which keeps me
occupied!
I would like to meet up with and keep in contact with like-minded
individuals who use use Linux, to share thoughts, ideas, problems, news,
and gernerally my enthusiasm for Linux and open source software. I am
also very keen on retro gaming – so if you are into the old 8 and 16 bit
home computers and consoles, you are in good company!
I'm sure I will post some more soon, and it would be great to hear from
any one else.
Kind regards,
Doug Mills.
