Hi folks,

I'd just like to thanks those who made it to the meet this Monday. I
hope you enjoyed yourselves and found it helpful/informative etc.

What did you think of the venue? I think it worked well myself.
naturally there are some things that need looking into further; like
getting onto the network to gain Internet access, but I think that will
come with time. I should have asked for the data projectors so we could
have played with them to make sure they work with Linux for future
events.

Paul T seems happy with the way the install went. Would you agree with
this Paul W (sorry, can't think of another way to put that!) I didn't
hear any exclamations of horror coming from your table anyway. I hope
you're finding the laptop more usable than your previous installs have
gone.

For those not at the meet and who haven't seen the website; our next
meet will be at The spotted Cow on the 16th Oct. A 7.00 - 7.30pm start
should get us some space in on of the smaller rooms. I'll not bother
booking this time as it doesn't seem to guarantee a room to ourselves.

GPG

Ash, you seemed interested to find out more about using GPG. Perhaps
you could have a look at it, post here with how you get on and we can
maybe discuss it via IRC if you need more direct help. We'll work
toward having a small key signing party at the next meet if you like.

IRC

I'm a bit rusty using IRC, so I need to get back into it again. From
what I can figure we can start by simply choosing our own channel and
going with that name, but it would be worth-while to register the
channel name in the near future. I'll look into it though.

For the moment, if you like to point your IRC client at irc.lug.org.uk
and join #ryedale I think we could get started. How about we try this
next Monday 25th? Say start about 7.30 - 8.00pm

If you've never used IRC before, this might be helpful:

X-chat seems to be popular and comes with all distros and, I think, also
available for Windows. There are many others though, so take your pick.
Another thing I need to look into is the possibility of setting up a
Java based chat client to work from browsers so we can get people to
join in directly from the LUG website.

Well, that gives me plenty to be going on with.

Toodle pip,

Al

P.S. Could those whose arms I've been twisting please send their
descriptions for the Members Page. :)
