Certainly does, thanks for looking!

I did check the version I'm using, but with brain working faster than
fingers I failed to include it in my original message.  It's GIMP 2.2.13
for those interested, which appears to be the latest version available
for Etch.

I suspect the problem lies with the jpeg plugin.  I've just downloaded
gimp 2.6.0 but have immediately run into dependency issues and don't
have the time at the moment to resolve them and I really ought to
upgrade to Lenny anyhow.
