[Ryedale] How to install webcam in Ubuntu?

Cheese works fine just the video is black. I couldn't find the video chat option on Pidgin. When I use webbased flash (am using the propriety adobe one) just get a black screen.

That was as I was plugging it in and unplugging it I presume?
