I would have just gone with a regular small server, they are cheap enough 
these days and spent some time trying a few distros out. The key is control.
Not being crippled by somebody else's ideas would have helped loads.
I've seen the insides of these things - very ordinary.

This isn't the end of the world. I'm sure it can be done, it'll just need 
patience, information from cobalt and a helping hand. Remeber it is
cobalts implementation that will slow you up and not linux!

I'm sure our esteemed lugmeister will point out the merits of apt-get on 
debian. I'll be seeing him tomorrow..... we'll beat him up for you. haha. 
(just joking Richard - it'll be the redcarpet and peppermint tea really!)

I'll have a punt around the web and see if can come up with anything.
