Hi,
can someone figure out how I can resolve the following problem?
I have an old Sparc 5 running Red Hat 6.1. I access it through a crossover
serial cable into the com port of the Mandrake machine. (Suns send their
output to the serial port if there's no keyboard attached). I run Minicom in
a terminal to do whatever I want. The machine does not have a CD drive, but
does have an ethernet card.
I wanted to use DHCP instead of having a fixed IP of 192.168.0.5, as I now
have a broadband router and the rest of the network uses the range from
10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.6 as suggested by the ISP's instructions.
I used netconfig and told the Sparc to use DHCP (the router acts as a DHCP
server) but the program segfaulted for some reason. Now it won't let me log
in (as anything), it gives a login prompt but typing "root" and "enter" does
not get anywhere. Basically, I can't log in.
Any ideas on how to get in again? (Or what to do with a pizzabox paperweight?)
Thanks,
Neil
