Hi. Thanks for subscribing to the list; it's about time I got things
moving.

The idea behind the Linux Day is to replicate the success of the 2002
Linux Install Day [1], but shift the emphasis away from installation
(which isn't necessarily good PR). Here's a list of aims from the top of
my head.

* introduce people to Linux
* use the favourable press coverage of Linux to raise awarness of free /
open source software in general
* provide free advice from local experts, let people bring PCs in
* show off Linux & other FOSS features - ideas, please!
* give talks during the day

As for timing, I doubt all participant LUGS will be able to hold the
event on one day (as with the last install day) but I was aiming for
mid-October, let's say Saturday 9th. That would leave five months to get
things in order. So here's a provisional schedule.

* May: get website sorted out, publicise to LUGs
* June - August: finalise date(s), get onto LUGs who haven't responded,
see if we can get sponsorship
* September - make press release, publicise as much as possible

The date was picked with university-centred LUGs in mind, such as
Reading, where my LUG booked a room last time, but obv. it's open to
discussion.

Right, enough from me for now. Any comments?

Regards,
Simon
