But I can't get it to play  Running alsamixer gives an error:

gandalf:~# alsamixer
 
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device"


It appeared to be a permissions thing in the end - currently listening to a CD in the computer drive :) I am a happy bunny again (well, except for the missing 20GB of disk due to the partitioning disaster......)
