Because as well as being a games console, it's a general
purpose computer, running GNU/Linux, and in a smaller
form-factor than the EEE.

Although gaming is the main interest for the manufacturers, 
afaict from my (admittedly cursory) look at the plans,
there's nothing hidden away in the OS - you should be able
to install and run what you wish :-)

Of course until (and if) it actually appears anything could
change - but that applies to everything that appears on
linuxdevices.com too.
