I use and really like TextPad when I am at work. While there are lots of
good editors under Linux, some containing nice unique features, TextPad
is hard to beat all in all.
As a simple editor Kate is OK but it soon runs out of steam. Being a
Software Engineer (when in work mode which is not often when I'm at
home) I use features like 'Find In All Open Docs' or 'Find In Files' or
'Multiple Document Find & Replace'. AFAIK Kate has none of these
functions and is missing many others.
I tend to use the editor in Quanta which seems to be an improved version
of Kate; but this is not as good as TextPad. It takes up stacks of
memory and needs a decent PC to run it otherwise frustration is
guaranteed. On the plus side it does have 'Find In Files' and a few
other nice features.
From the command line Vi is my favourite; very powerful but a little
obscure until you get used to it and I'm no expert.
There is/was?? a GUI editor called jEdit. Has anyone used this? I ask
because I seem to remember it being popular at one point.
Regards,
Paul.
