[SLUG] Gnome notifications

Hi all,

Can anybody help me with notifications in gnome?

The stimulus for this is that I want to know when I get a new mail in
Thunderbird... Something like flashing the taskbar would be great, or an
icon in the systray/notification area would do.

I've played with mailwatch for gkrellm, it shows in gkrellm when I get
new mail but I can't get a visible alert.

I tend to have sound off you see. Does anyone have any pointers?
