[SLUG] CD/DVD drive icon disappeared

Further to my posting yesterday, I spoke to a KDE developer at the Linux 
Expo at Olympia this a.m.

He added to what I said, that, if the relevant CDROM box is already 
ticked, then untick it, and Apply your way out.
Go back in, re-tick the box and Apply your way out again.

I said, you'd probably need a reboot between each of those operations. 
He said no, but what does he know?  He's only a KDE developer.
