I'm totally confused (again). Right, so on www.linuxprinting.org/ it tells me that the Epson Stylus C48 works perfectly, yet it isn't on any of the lists to choose from when I'm setting it up? I've printed some test pages out by choosing the Epson Stylus C50 , which is more than it just feeding me blank sheets of paper. Unfortunatly, the test pages are a total mess with stuff overlapping and other random stuff =( I am aware that this is probably happening due to me not having a clue what I'm doing. I'm not ready to give up on Linux just yet, the printer just seems to be an on-going problem. I hope no-one would object to me bringing my machine to one of your meetings, perhaps it would be easier to find out what the problem is if people could see it in action?
Thanks,
Lucy 8)

Hi Lucy and welcome.

Sounds about right.

Welcome to our world, I can see that we're going to get along wonderfully.

Hurrah, John's taught you well. We would forgive you if you did.

Go for it.
Perhaps this Hungarian chap can help you as he's had the same tooth
pullingly painful experience; and had no help; and all in the last month.

If not then at least you have the opportunity to make a new friend.
Sorry for being utterly unhelpful, but I'm in the clearly rather
fortunate "mine just worked" bag... I will holler if I think of anything.

Where are you at?
Are we still at step five of the how to?
On mine, when I add printer, there are three fields, the name of the
printer, location and description which I think are all just plain
English things for your benefit, the next thing is a drop-down list of
devices (not printers). Mine shows hp:/usb/deskjet_5100 etc which I
took to mean my HP Deskjet 5150. With your printer plugged in and
switched on, is there anything in that list that sounds useful?

Oh, one other point of protocol, while we're at it.
You haven't done anything wrong, but just so you get what's going on:
In Linux world it's good to edit the message(s) that preceeded the one
to which you are replying leaving just what's completely relevant,
then add your next comments at the bottom. A reader may then read the
whole message in the usual way (top to bottom) and be reminded of the
current situation.
This contrasts with Windows world in which the user does not edit
previous messages and writes new stuff at the top.
Obviously a > that precedes a line means it was t'other person wot
wrote it, and >> means it was the one before that, ad infinitum. These
are usually added automagically.

I haven't read any of the tutorials, but what are you using to add the
printer - through the "gnome" or "kde" control panel equivalent, or
through the CUPS interface at http://127.0.0.1:631/, or through editing
config files?

Certainly not editing config files, jeez, calm down :-). I'm trying to
lead her through the Linux printing how-to, which takes you to the
CUPS interface at that address.
However, that how-to also suggests alternatively using the KDE printer
manager add-printer dialogue, so I was considering asking what happens
when you try that .. Lucy? I think you're running KDE so that might
work too.

Hello, Lucy,
The Epson C48 is a member of the Epson C40 series of printers. In
general, Epson manufactures printers in families - the C60s, the C80s
etc. Again, in general, the drivers are similar for all members of the
series. For example, I run an Epson C66 using a C64 driver.
I've hesitated to join this thread because I use Fedora and not Suse,
but, somewhere in the Suse works, there should be a driver for one of
the C40 printers?? If not, use Fedora: it's a breeze.
Good luck! We're all in there rooting for you.

Looking in the KDE Printer Manager Add-Printer Dialogue, I see various
C40 printers. Some of them are SX and some are UX. As far as I
remember, the UX jobs are USB printers, so I imagine the SX printers are
not USB (i.e. parallel) printers. The C48 you have is a USB printer,
yes? What about trying the C44UX driver?
