Morning all
So I've finally run dar on my machine, as root, to take a full backup,
and I've got 698 inodes that failed to save.
Is that OK?
Do I need the sort of files that are being rejected in order to rebuild
my system?
Should I be excluding some of these?
If I'm root, how come I'm getting permission problems?
Sample:
> Error while saving /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usblp/bind: Cannot open file : Permission denied
> Error while saving /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.5/resource3: Error while reading from file: Input/output error
> Error while saving /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl: Cannot open file : Permission denied
> Error while saving /home/John/.beagle/ToIndex/firefox-beagle-978df5bab77616a8dd8795978ad9dbde.html: Error while reading from file: Input/output error
> Error while saving /home/John/.Trash/Screenshot-Olympia, Scarborough - Mozilla Firefox.png: Error while reading from file: Input/output error
I just read the blog of a friend of a friend and he's quite
independently, converted his whole extended family to Linux and says
"it's just like any operating system, really", and if you get a problem
you just go online and find the fix. Yeah sure, Linux is a breeze, no
problem.
Mind you, I had problems getting out of the petrol station kiosk the
other day.
Cheers
J
