I haven't used either of these (Apache's fine for my simple needs) but you
might want to look at lighttpd <http://www.lighttpd.net> or monkey httpd
<http://monkeyd.sourceforge.net/>

Note that monkey httpd looks like it may have something of a chequered
security history (google monkey httpd)
