I thought it was more like: MySQL for quick access to data which isn't 
priceless; PgSQL for bullet-proof data retention, at a performance price.

E.g. I used MySQL for the dB backend of a network monitoring app because 
the data was being continually refreshed from the network and it wasn't 
the end of the world if a bit got lost from time to time, whereas speed 
was important. If I'd been collecting election results I'd have gone 
more for PgSQL*
















* unless it was US elections in which case I'd have done it with Visual 
Basic and Access on a Windoze platform because that's the American way :-)
