You can get back CTRL-U if you:
	- run an xsettings manager (as per KDE, GNOME, xfce) and set its
	  keyboard stuff to "Emacs".
	- if you don't run an xsettings manager put
	  gtk-key-theme-name = "Emacs"
	  in ~/.gtkrc-2.0
