I suspect it ran on Sun/SPARC (as well?). In my first year at uni the 
email system worked by using some kind of DOS terminal emulator to 
connect to a central Big Box on which you ran elm. The default text 
editor used to write messages was... WP5. (Performance was a problem 
when several hundred ppl were all using the box at once.) I don't know 
for sure what kind of box the central machine was, but most of the rest 
of the Unix side of the house was Sun, and I suspect this one was as well.
