Thanks for that. Both point out issues found in 1998, that have since been
resolved.

Raz mentions GRE. To use PPTP, your router must support GRE passthrough.
That allows IP protocol 47 to pass through the router to the PPTP server.
Note that this is not Port 47 (an issue tht often rears it's head!.
