[sclug] using Xgl and Beryl

Playing around with this...

following the Ubuntu wiki, Xgl installed nicely enough, compiz/compiz-kde
weren't going to do so, apt-get wasn't happy with it. Beryl, however, loaded
and worked fine, after referring to the compiz and beryl instructions on the
wiki.

KDE has been my usual desktop, however with Xgl/Beryl enabled I found
performance rather sluggish, perhaps because my machine is not very new or
well-endowed (256MB RAM, 32MB nVidia video card). So I was trying it out with
Xfce/Xgl/Beryl, which seems much more comfortable - maybe I should stick with
Xfce :-)

Effects are very pretty, not sure how much it really adds to usability and
productivity, though it does look great. A couple of screenshots here:

better still would be to find some convenient way to take a short video of the
screen display, since you need to see it moving to really show this stuff
off. Any suggestions?

cheers
John
