XFCE is just the same, to install from Ubuntu or Kubuntu just choose 
xubuntu-desktop from Synaptic/Adept/apt-get.

All of ...-desktop are meta-packages, can be removed once you've got the 
environment loaded, they're just handy as a way of pulling in all the usual 
stuff you'd expect to find on a Gnome/KDE/XFCE desktop. 

For example for me I don't use Abiword/Gnumeric, which are pulled in by 
xubuntu-desktop, so when I uninstalled those it removed the xubuntu-desktop 
metapackage as well, of course leaving all of the actuall XFCE utilities and 
what-not that you do want.
