Unfortunately Windows isn't as flexible as Linux when it comes to
hardware setups. Moving a Linux install from one box config to another
is more or less totally painless (aside from brand new bits of
hardware that need new software etc), but Windows will throw up all
kinds of fuss if you even think about trying to use an installation on
a different system.

I would strongly recommend against trying to boot an existing setup
from VMware. It can be done, but the pain that will come with simply
isn't worth it.
