HTTP? Set a cron job or FTP server module to gzip the image first? I
don't know, there's not really a simple way to solve this. When taking
system images from raw disk though, it's often a good idea to dd
if=/dev/zero of=./file_on_each_partition so that gzipping the image
will yield a much smaller disk image.

Other than that I can't think of any thing useful.
