FWIW Ubuntu 8.10 is currently on 2.6.27 (patch 7, apparently; since
kernel.org are only up to patch 4 I'm not quite sure how they've managed
that, but there it is). Perhaps 2.6.24 could be called a "recent-ish"
kernel :-)
