shred - Overwrite a file, or partition.

I have only used it to wipe complete disks. sanitizing a computer by
running this on the system from a live disk.

The man states that this dosent work with individual files in
journaling filesystems. so may not be of use to you. I dont know of
any way of wiping the free space.
