[sclug] sclug Digest, Vol 95, Issue 3

I have a wierd Debian 6 problem with Synaptic/apt-get. It's crept in quite
recently - I can download and install specific packages, but  if I want to
get the latest updates (ie using the Debian Update Manager), it hangs with
the processor flatlining. I've tried updating the sources, but that has the
same effect. I've tried deleting the sources.list file and recreating it,
using different mirrors, but I have the same result.

Can anyone suggest the cause and what to do about it? I obviously can't
delete and reinstall the UpdateManager/apt-get.
