I am not sure what problems you are having with the Yahoo groups as you should be able to un-subscribe by sending an email to

"group-name"-unsubscribe at yahoogroups.com

you should not need to subscribe again to unsubscribe as you would have the log in details already. Are you sure you are using the right email address to unsubscribe with?
