Firstly, the URL is not public, it is only advertised by putting the URL into 
the sig at the bottom of our mailing list.  The whole idea is based on trust.  
If the system is defaced then it relies on other users removing any 
defacements, or rolling it back to a previous version.

I think they are a great idea, as unlike list archives they are not stuck in 
time, but can be updated if anyone finds any content which is not current.

I can think of a number of (commercial) projects in the past that could have 
made excellent use of a wiki, especially for creating preliminary 
documentation.  Every intranet should have one ;)

Our original idea was to summarise things we had discussed on the list.  It 
has not worked as well as we had hoped, probably because we need more users 
updating content to get the momentum going.  Most of the content has been 
added by just a handful of people.
