Hiyer
A Linux user for around ten years I had a teenager visit me today with a
Packard Bell box that he wanted to install Slackware on. Configuring
the BIOS to boot from a CD it defaulted to A drive. I made boot and
image disks on my box and it booted but it went into kernel panic when
loading the image disks, maybe the 4Mb of ram. I tried the lowmem.i
without success.
Then I put my CD drive on his box. That too defaulted to A drive. I
tried all the tricks I know and failed. He may come to the meeting
tomorrow, I don't know. Be prepared! I fancy the architecture of
the box won't allow Linux to be installed and would value some comment.
If anyone in the group can help him I will recommend him to come and see
you tomorrow. He's keen but just needs that little bit of help so can
you fix him up?
So nice to be back on the group after a few months and a change of ISP.
Regards
Graham.
PS I put Fedora off LXF on a couple of weeks ago, an old box, a Pentium
2 at 333Mhz and it does the job. But I luv Slackware.
Regards
Graham
