Folks,

A while a go a few of you expressed an interest in getting an amateur radio
licence. I have spoken to Frank Whitehead (the last person in Derby to teach
TV and radio repair!) today who advised me that he plans to run all three
courses at Nunsfield House provided that he can get the numbers.

The courses will start in September starting with the Foundation, which runs
for four weeks for three hours each Saturday morning. Following on from that
is the Intermediate and Full RAE. They are a little (read: quite a lot) more
involved and run for quite a while! As I understand it (and maybe Paul or
Stuart could confirm or deny this) you can start with any course you like, so
if you think you might be interested, try the foundation and if you know your
interested go for the RAE.

There are currently 6 people signed up for the foundation, so that course will
run and you are welcome to join it. The RAE currently has one person signed
up, so I'd like five others to sign up so that the course will run!!!

The foundation is £25 and the others are a little more. If anyone has any
questions please email me. If anyone would like to sign up, email me for
more info. If anyone thinks this info is inaccurate, it probably is!

If anyone would like an example question off the former Novice exam, here it
is:

Q. Smoke can be seen coming from the vents of a piece of electrical equipment.
Should you:

A) Have a bucket of water ready in case the equipment catches fire.
B) Allow the smoke to continue until the equipment catches fire.
C) Turn it off.
D) Make a note of the event in the station log book.

Once again, five people need to volunteer for the RAE, otherwise I will pick
five!

Mike.
