[Derby - LUG] networking xp (laptop) to Linux

Hello everyone,

I hope someone out there can help as I am trying to network my XP laptop
to my Mandriva 2010 Linux computer. I have two NIC's in my Mandriva system
and a crossover network cable. One of the two NIC's is connected to the
internet and the other NIC has the crossover cable connecting it to my
laptop.

Would I be better off installing Linux on the Laptop as well, that is if
it is easier to network two Linux systems together than the way I am
trying to at the moment. As my laptop works fine with Mandriva.

Thanks for any help you may give.

P.S. I have installed Samba and not got very far with it.
