Chaps,

Just for your info.

The new issue of LINUX format (which hits the shelves today) contains a very
good tutorial on UNIX system programming in C (the 2nd in a 3 part series).
This month the explain, in simple terms, with examples, the C coding
required to set up pipes and named pipes in (and between) your programs and
they demonstrate the signal() system call.

If you don't know a SIGHUP from a SIGSEGV (and you'd like to), I would
strongly recommend this article.

In last months issue they gave a similar treatment to read(), write() and
the multitude of fork() and exec() calls. Next month they're obviously
feeling brave because they're going for the big one - in a few magazine
pages they're going to explain socket programming and provide complete
source for a simple web server.

All of this stuff is invaluable if you're just starting out writing C on
UNIX/LINUX.

Otherwise the magazine gives you Mandrake9 on the coverdisc and the LINUXPro
supplement has articles about LINUX Accessability, Parallel programming and
the newley open-sourced Blender 3d design/animation studio.

That they do not respect in any degree
Who despise their jobs, their destinies
Speak jealously of them that are free
Cultivate their flowers to be
Nothing more than something
They invest in."
