THis week has been a little more tedious than usual. A customer in reading has
just moved into a managed building. The network manager of said building, a
guy around my age, south african accent and quite unhelpful, was to provide a
staitc public IP to the customers suite. I was plugging a IPCOP box in to
connect over the VPN to a Terminal Service. The connection provided was
actually a Private Class C ( 192.168.x.x ) and the gateway was routed through
his firewall. clearly this was not going to work. Two days of arguing and I
get a connection direct to the Red Zone witha nice big public IP address in
order to make the connection. However said network guy expressed the opionion
that it was all wrong for us to use a public IP an that he would out us back
next week. Having expressed the fact that he had now delivered on the
requirements and he should leave well enough alone. It toook quite a
discussion before he disagreed and hung up, a phone call to his supervisor
resulted in him phoning back and ( and at this point I had him on speaker
phone in the office ) expressing to me that I was a clueless little man with
no understanding of networks and that I should respect him because, here it
comes, he was a GOD in this environment and I should respect him!
Has anyone else ever met seriously over arrogant sysadmins who actually
believe they are GODS ?
I really could not believe that people would actually say this. Needless to
say I sent the conversation to the Building management Supervisor, Customer
and account manager...
I cant wait for monday !
