Dominic,

Sun, might get into a media war, but I doubt it, and here's why! Its a
ridiculous story, it's just a bunch of marketing codswallop. This is like
comparing Apples and Oranges. Things to remeber:

1, Sun don't make much money directly from Solaris - they are principly
interested in selling hardware.

2, Sun's strategy doesn't pitch Solaris at the "commodity" server market
-that's where Linux fits in. If you care to check new Linux boxes coming
online in this market place is way way higher than any other platform and
the rate increases every day.

3, One Sun starfire 150K sold with a single copy of solaris 9 represents
revenue to Sun of up to 2000 times the planned cost per unit on Windows 2003
server.

In short, Windows and Solaris are not really competing for the same
marketspace (even Sun now acknowledge this). LINUX is the competitor to
"Windows PC as a server" market, show me how many Windows 2003 servers are
running production code on 64-bit machines with 8+ CPU's and then we'll
start doing comparisons.

I'm going to go now and write a nice article about how QNX Neutrino 3 (An
unreleased product( is running in way more heart-monitors than Windows CE
(Pocket PC), despite the fact that CE's been in the embedded market for ages
now..
