I've already offered him my old 3com one for free.  He doesn't _want_ to run
Windows but it's a matter of perception - if he feels LINUX isn't up to the
job he will move back.  He's e-mailing himself home a Word document tonight
to see how OpenOffice.org deals with it.

Agreed.  But as I have said, a little testing would have saved a lot of
trouble - frankly if they had to charge £259 instead of £249 to install a
_real_ modem I don't think they would have lost a single customer.
