I think they do have the right to expect a minimum as impressions
are important to clients and others outside the company.
I'm in an odd situation. My visits are mostly to client's warehouses
which, outside the office area, are very dusty environments. In my
time on site just before Christmas blue jeans (a no-no in the office
except on a Friday) were the order of business. So to were the
steal toe cap boots (for Health & Safety).
Given that a tie can get caught in printers and other office equipment
then maybe the case to get rid of the tie should be on "Health & Safety"
grounds. Look how fast smoking has moved out of the office after that
one case!
