Makes sense, although combining files together is usually part of the
process of saving space. However, what you outline is a pretty good idea as
any screwups would only affect a particular CD which then could be re-burnt.
Methinks, there must be a way to do this, tho it would be a pretty
complicated script, dealing with gzipping each file creating temporary
directories/source directory structure for each CD and making sure that the
CD size limit is not exceeded as the files are copied in, then ISO's
created. Finally burning the CD's one at a time.
The restore process would be just as complex, unless you just wanted one or
two files.
