OK... rather than relying on my NHS book, I turned to the web:

What the Law says:

 Babies and Toddlers

It is an offence to give alcohol to a child under 5 years of age except under
medical supervision or in an emergency. It is also an offence for a person to
be found drunk in charge of a child under 10 years.

 Up-to Age 14

Not allowed in the bar of licensed premises but may be able to enter parts of
the premises where there is sale only or consumption only. They are also
allowed on the premises with a refreshment licence before 8pm, if accompanied
by a person over 21 years of age.

 Under Age 16

It is illegal for young people to buy, be bought (by another) or drink alcohol
on licensed premises.

 Over Age 16

Young people over 16 years can buy and drink some alcoholic drinks (beer, wine,
cider) with a meal in a part of any licensed premises exclusively set aside for
the serving of food.

 Under 18 Years

Young people under the age of 18 cannot work, or sell alcohol over a bar in
licensed premises (pubs, hotel bars etc.).
