If you're looking for a complete python web-site solution then you need to look at Zope... see http://www.zope.org and the very good "zope book" that is available.

Otherwise python can be used with Apache in much the same way that either perl or ruby can.  If you're looking for good python books to help you, then I'd recommend:

Python in a nutshell (fairly new from O'Reilly)
Python Cookbook (older, slightly out of date, but very useful, also O'Reilly).
