[Sussex] IT qualifications advice

Well, as an experienced bunch in the IT field, I was wondering if anyone
could give me some good advice on the subject of what qualifications are
actually useful for real life IT work.

Sometime this week, I'll have to make my final choice of what I do for my
A levels. Right now, it's really a choice of whether I go to my schools
6th form, or Chichester college. I'm leaning more towards the former for
quite a few reasons. Maths, buisness studies, chemistry, english are some
of the subjects I'm interested in (I choose 4 A levels, drop one at the
end of next year).

This brings me on to my question, would an A level in "ICT" actually be
useful for a career in IT? It's important to mention I'm not particulary
going for IT as a career path, or any other right now, just trying to keep
a good range of options open.

Without trying to sound like a big head, I don't think the course would be
very challenging to me, as it seems pretty basic. Things like word
processing, using the internet, basic computer care, etc. Not what most
people on this list would consider exciting. I have the unfortunate
tendency to not do well at something when I'm not interested.

I guess my main question is, could I have a good stab at more useful IT
qualifications without this A level?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
Alan

Btw, the 2.4.23 kernel went final today, in case others didn't notice.
Seems to be working fine on my desktop. :)
