[Sussex] Enemy Territory and ALSA

All,

I've googled and search high and low for the solution to this, but I
can't seem to get it to work.  When ever I fire up Enemy Territory, it
says:

/dev/dsp: Invalid argument
Could not open /dev/dsp
------------------------------------
Sound memory manager started
Sys_LoadDll(/home/mwallace/.etwolf/etmain/ui.mp.i386.so)...
Sys_LoadDll(/home/mwallace/.etwolf/etmain/ui.mp.i386.so) failed:
"/home/mwallace/.etwolf/etmain/ui.mp.i386.so: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory"
Sys_LoadDll(/opt/enemy-territory/etmain/ui.mp.i386.so)... ok
Sys_LoadDll(ui) found **vmMain** at  0x4a751bfc
Sys_LoadDll(ui) succeeded!

And there's no sound at all.

Any ideas?
