[Sussex] PHP safe mode

All,

I'm tryin to run a spellchecker in my website, but php safe mode is on
and it won't let me use either the backtick operator or shell_exec().  I
need aspell to feed back the output to me so that I can check these
documents.

I've also tried uploading a binary (compiled on my machine) to the
cgi-bin to see if that will work, but to no avail!
