[Sussex] 2.6 help...

From what I've read I think you haven't run lilo.

You need to edit the /etc/lilo.conf to have an entry that points at the
new build.  For example:
    default=Linux

    image=/boot/bzImage-2.4
       label=Linux
       read=only

    image=/boot/bzImage-2.6-test
       label=Linux-Test
       read-only

Then you need to type the command "lilo".

The lilo program will then read the lilo.conf and install a new
boot-load using the lilo.conf file.  If all works you'll see something
like this:

  # lilo
  Added Linux *
  Added Linux-2.6-test

The "*" indicates which is the default.  They when the system is
rebooted the lilo will allow you to boot either the "Linux" 
kernel or "Linux-2.6.test".
