[Sussex] A brief quesiton about GPL ...

Ive written some BASH Scripts to answer a problem in a open Source 
package we use. I like the scripts and they do the job , though as usual 
they are very functional . Id like to publish them , but id like to 
maintain the right to be credited if people take the scripts and edit them.

Am I being petty , is GPL a hammer to crack this  nut ?
