I agree.  Proper mail config is a big issue.  

Can I suggest that a good one for the future would be setting up
sendmail/exim/postfix/qmail on a machine with a non-resolvable hostname
(i.e the average home users machine without a publically available DNS
record) and combining it safely with fetchmail. 

..it's a great irony that the user group with the least experience often
has to deal with a more complex setup than a lot of corporate installs.
Of course you can argue that these users can simply use Evolution (or
suchlike) against their ISP's POP3/IMAP/SMTP sever(s) but then they'd
loose out on the joy of mutt, r-mail or the like - and we all know Linux
users want to fiddle.. ;)

Let me just say firmly that I am not the person to do such a
presentation - I've done this set-up many times, and I've never felt
wholly comfortable with it (I am not a sys-admin by trade, but a mere
software engineer).
